Transdifferentiation of pancreatic non-beta cells to beta cells

By virus-mediated trangene expression we transdifferentiated adult human pancreatic duct cells to a neuro-endocrine phenotype that contained low insulin content and were glucose insensitive. By modulation of signals that control the embryonic development of beta cells we aim to further reprogram these cells to functional beta cells.

An internal Gene Expression core facility supports our research activities by producing recombinant lenti- and adenovirus vectors and infectious particles as well as designing sequences for RNA interference and testing their effectiveness.
